LETTER: Rebecca McPhail

Details
December 02, 2020

Editor,

While education is important, a diploma is not a guarantee of intelligence, and the lack of a degree is not a sign of failure. Accordingly, I was disheartened to read Sunday in the Charleston Gazette-Mail a snide commentary by Phil Kabler about Sen. Craig Blair, R-Berkeley, who could be the next Senate President. Kabler pointed out Blair’s lack of a college degree, dismissing his possible election as evidence of “Republican anti-intellectualism.” If by that Kabler meant that Blair does not value education, he is dead wrong.

As part of the Senate leadership team, and a strong supporter of 2019’s “Last Dollar In” legislation that was designed to make education for certain high-demand careers more affordable, Blair is committed to providing better opportunities for West Virginians.

Blair is someone who recognizes, perhaps better than others, the value of an education, and has worked hard to make it available to the very people who need the most help in getting to, and through, school.

Today is National Manufacturing Day!

Details
October 02, 2020

Celebrated annually on the first Friday in October, National Manufacturing Day shines a light on modern manufacturing careers by encouraging companies and educational institutions around the nation to open their doors to students, parents, teachers and community leaders.  Things may look different this year due to COVID-19 but that is even more reason to share the importance of manufacturing in today’s world.

West Virginia manufacturing companies were deemed essential businesses during the global pandemic and quickly responded to calls for personal protection equipment, hand sanitizers and other critical supplies.  “WVMA companies continued their important work during this unprecedented time and stepped up when they were needed most.  We salute you every day but especially on National Manufacturing Day,” said WVMA President Rebecca McPhail.

The WVMA encourages you to share your stories and engage with future creators!  Please post on your social media platforms today, and throughout October, about the cool things your company is doing to further manufacturing in West Virginia.

GovernorJusticeCHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginians for Manufacturing Jobs (WVMJ) PAC, in consultation with the West Virginia Manufacturers Association (WVMA), announces its endorsement of Gov. Jim Justice for reelection in the 2020 General Election.

“Governor Justice took swift action in response to the COVID-19 crisis. He recognized the necessity of manufacturing as an essential industry in response to COVID, which allowed West Virginia’s manufacturers to respond to critical needs during these challenging times,” said WVMA President Rebecca McPhail. “He quickly assembled a responsive crisis team, and they all have worked tirelessly to adapt to the changing landscape of the pandemic.”

She said Justice and his team have continued working to protect the health and safety of West Virginians while keeping the economic engine of the state running.

“The leadership of Governor Justice is what we need to move West Virginia forward in the coming years,” McPhail said.

In addition to governor, the WV Manufacturing Jobs PAC endorsed 63 candidates in West Virginia Senate, House of Delegates and Board of Public Works races. For information, contact Rebecca McPhail at (304) 767-5189.
