Details
August 28, 2019
Statement from WVMA President Rebecca McPhail on Gov. Jim Justice’s announcement that he is creating a new task force to focus on on downstream manufacturing opportunities in the petrochemical industry and also committed to repealing the property tax on inventory, machinery and equipment:

“The West Virginia Manufacturers Association long has championed the incredible opportunities for our state within the petrochemical industry. We applaud Gov. Jim Justice for creating this new task force and appointing DEP Secretary Austin Caperton as its leader. Secretary Caperton has the knowledge and vision to help West Virginia work with the Trump Administration and navigate this exciting path forward. The job growth and revenue potential in the petrochemical industry can be a true game-changer for West Virginia, and the WVMA is eager to be part of the conversation.

At the same time, we are encouraged by the governor’s commitment to repealing the onerous, anti-competitive tax on inventory, machinery and equipment. Repealing this tax is a necessary first step toward growing our manufacturing industry and capitalizing on all the opportunities before us.”

The Plastic Paradox: W.Va. must embrace petrochemical potential | Opinion | wvnews.com

In some circles, “plastic” has become an almost verboten term because of growing concerns about waste. But addressing waste around the globe while growing West Virginia’s economy are not mutually exclusive goals.

West Virginia’s abundant fossil resources in the Marcellus and Utica Shale regions make us the ideal engine for growth in the petrochemical industry, and the federal government recognizes it.

WV Manufacturers Statement on Bloomberg

Details
June 10, 2019

Charleston, W.Va. – “West Virginia manufacturers stand firmly with natural gas and coal, while advocating further development of renewables, and for that matter nuclear power. All play a role in energizing America,” said Rebecca McPhail, president of the West Virginia Manufacturers Association. “Michael Bloomberg’s attempt to attack fossil fuels is misguided absent any reasonable thought as to what will replace them. The renewables that Bloomberg champions are by their nature intermittent. The stability of fossil fuels is needed for the foreseeable future to provide the energy necessary to power our homes, fuel our cars, and manufacture the products that we all use.”
