CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Barbara Buck has become the first woman to serve as chairman of the West Virginia Manufacturers Association (WVMA) Board of Directors.

Buck, vice president and plant manager for Covestro’s South Charleston Polyurethane manufacturing facility, was installed as chairman during the WVMA’s June 18 board meeting.

“It is truly an honor to be named chairman of the WVMA board, and it’s an even bigger honor to hold the distinction of being the first female chairman,” Buck said. “Manufacturing is such an important part of the West Virginian economy and way of life, and I am excited to bring my passion to this position as I continue to support the WVMA and its goals for the industry.”

A few weeks ago, we told you how manufacturers had stepped up to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The #CreatorsRespond effort has helped our first responders and health care workers meet the unpredictable demands of managing an unprecedented viral threat. Thanks to careful guidance from health care experts, herculean efforts by our care-giving community and responsible behavior from a majority of citizens, West Virginia is able to open back up for business.

Charleston, W.Va. – The West Virginians for Manufacturing Jobs (WVMJ) PAC with consultation from West Virginia Manufacturers Association (WVMA) announces endorsements for the 2020 West Virginia Primary. These endorsements convey the support of the WVMJ PAC and the manufacturing industry for West Virginia Primary races. The WVMJ PAC will conduct candidate surveys and additional analysis when determining endorsements for 2020 General Election. Incumbents who received a score of 80 percent or better on legislation aimed at improving manufacturing in West Virginia and demonstrate the ability  to representing West Virginia in a positive way are included in primary endorsements.

“We want to recognize legislators and candidates who demonstrate an exceptional understanding of the importance of the growth of manufacturing to our state’s economy,” said Rebecca McPhail, President of the WVMJ PAC and West Virginia Manufacturers Association. “As our state faces unprecedented economic challenges, it is more important than ever to look ahead and support candidates who can most effectively lead our state to a strong economic future at every level.”

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Proving that manufacturers can adapt to any challenge, the West Virginia Manufacturers Association held its ninth annual Marcellus and Manufacturing Development Conference (MMDC) in the midst of a global pandemic – thanks to video conferencing technology.

The conference, originally slated for April 20-21 in Morgantown, instead was staged via video conference over a three-week period that concluded May 5.

“When the coronavirus emergency really hit the U.S. in March, we had to find a new way to make MMDC happen. Thankfully, the WVMA leadership and our sponsors were committed to this event,” said WVMA President Rebecca McPhail. “It is vitally important for us all to continue focusing on West Virginia’s natural gas industry and the downstream development and manufacturing opportunities it presents.”
