U.S. Rep. McKinley Accepts National Award for Legislative Excellence

Washington, D.C. – In celebration of National Manufacturing Day, the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) joined Eagle Manufacturing Company and the West Virginia Manufacturers Association (WVMA) for a day of special recognition and education activities at Eagle’s Wellsburg, W.Va. headquarters.

Today, NAM presented U.S. Rep. David McKinley (R-WV) with the NAM Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence during a special ceremony.

Also, Eagle engineers and representatives from the WVMA Educational Fund’s “Explore the New Manufacturing” initiative talked with STEM students from Brooke High School about manufacturing and participated in 3D printing activities.

Nearly 100 people attended the event including local elected officials, business and community leaders, and other members of the public.

“West Virginia manufacturers need leaders in Washington, D.C. who fight for us every day as Congressman McKinley has for many years,” Joe Eddy, Eagle president and chief executive officer, said. “Today we honor a true advocate for our industry and the state. His votes support manufacturing and policies that demonstrate his dedication to the future of the manufacturing industry. On behalf of all manufacturers, we congratulate the Congressman on this very special recognition,” Eddy said.

“I am honored and humbled to receive such a prestigious award from NAM,” Congressman McKinley said. “Manufacturing is a thriving industry in West Virginia and in this country – one full of opportunity and prosperity. The products made by our manufacturers are of the highest quality and desired by others across the world. It is extremely important that we continue to educate our young people about the many benefits this industry has to offer.”

“The work of Congressman McKinley to support and encourage the growth of manufacturing has been and will continue to be a key element of strengthening the manufacturing industry and our state,” said Rebecca McPhail, WVMA president. “West Virginia is fortunate to have such strong representation at the federal level.”

“Manufacturing in West Virginia and across the country is changing lives for the better—through the jobs we create and the products we make. Manufacturing is about improving the human condition, one innovation at a time,” said NAM president and CEO Jay Timmons. “Rep. McKinley is helping to make our success possible by standing with manufacturers when it matters and casting the right votes.

“Manufacturers employ over 12 million men and women in the U.S., who are making everything from lifesaving medicines to the most cutting-edge technology. The strength of manufacturing in America is responsible for the success of America in the world. When manufacturing succeeds, America succeeds, so Rep. McKinley’s consistent support for manufacturing means he is supporting a better future for all Americans.”

The award recipient is selected by manufacturing company executives countrywide who serve on the NAM Key Vote Advisory Committee. Additional information about the NAM Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence can be found here.

National Manufacturing Day, which officially occurs on the first Friday in October, is a celebration of modern manufacturing meant to inspire the next generation of manufacturers. In West Virginia nearly 50,000 people are employed at more than 1,100 manufacturing companies.
