ANNOUNCING THE DUPONT CHALLENGE 2008 SCIENCE ESSAY CONTEST
Entries are now being accepted for The DuPont Challenge® 2008 Science Essay Competition. The competition is open to all 7th through 12th grade students in the US and Canada, including family members of DuPont employees. I encourage you to share this exciting program with students and teachers who may have an interest in participating.
Entering its 22nd year, the DuPont Challenge® is a leading student science and technology program in the United States and Canada, attracting more than 10,000 entries per year and inspiring students to excel and pursue careers in science.
The DuPont Challenge® offers 7th-12th grade students an opportunity to write a 700-1,000-word essay about a scientific discovery, theory, event, or technological application that has captured their interest. The range of possible essay topics is as broad as science itself.
The DuPont Challenge® is sponsored by DuPont in collaboration with The Walt Disney World® Resort, NASA, and the National Science Teachers Association
(NSTA). It offers more than $25,000 in cash awards, and expenses-paid
trips to The Walt Disney World® Resort and Kennedy Space Center. More importantly, the DuPont Challenge offers young students the opportunity to explore science, develop new skills and gain confidence in communicating scientific ideas.
The call for entries to The DuPont Challenge® 2008 Science Essay Competition will be open until January 28, 2008. The DuPont Challenge® honors the heroes who died in the 1986 Challenger space shuttle disaster. In a broader sense, it honors all who labor to understand and improve the world through the use of the scientific method—and, it strives to encourage the next generation to explore the frontiers of science.
