NAM Update: Comments on Climate Change Needed PDF Print E-mail

November 12, 2008-- The NAM has launched its climate change tool kit on their web site at www.nam.org/climatechangetoolkit. We urge you to use this resource to take action on EPA's "Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking" (ANPR) on whether or not to use the outdated Clean Air Act (CAA) as a tool with which to regulate carbon emissions.

WVMA Legislative Meetings - Meet your legislators and discuss your company issues! PDF Print E-mail

The WVMA is hosting meetings around the state to give you an opportunity to discuss your issues with your local legislators.  

The meeting will begin with a reception at 6:00 p.m.  This will give you an informal setting to discuss issues with the people who make the decisions on the policies enacted in West Virginia.  A short program, outlining WVMA’s legislative agenda will begin at 6:30 p.m. and dinner will follow.  You should be heading home by 8:15 p.m.  

This venue will give you a chance to talk to your legislators about the problems you encounter at your company.  It will also be an opportunity to help us promote our legislative agenda.  An overview of our legislative agenda will be available in advance.

Court Blamed for Business Costs PDF Print E-mail

Daily Mail Capitol Reporter, Thursday, October 9, 2008: CHARLESTON, W.Va.-  In the last three years, the West Virginia Supreme Court has created additional costs on companies investing in the state, according to a report by a team of West Virginia University researchers.

Economics professor Russell Sobel, law school graduate Kristen Leddy and economist/law student Matthew Yanni studied court cases from 2006 through 2008 that posed detriments on the business sector in West Virginia.

The report, released this week, is titled "Should We Keep This Court? An Economic Examination of Recent Decisions Made by the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals." It was sponsored by the Federalist Society for Law & Public Policy Studies, a Washington, D.C.-based nonpartisan institution comprised of 40,000 lawyers, law students and scholars.

The current political environment is getting worse for Republicans as the election nears. Congressional job approval ratings, at 15% last week, do not bode well for any incumbent in a tough election this year. Some Republicans, such as incumbent Senators in Mississippi and Kentucky, who had been considered to be in “safe” seats, now have reason to believe their fortunes could change if the mood of the voters toward the current Administration and Congress continues to sour.
